Hawaiian Luau Party
We just got out of school and to celebrate we hosted a fun Hawaiian Luau. I wanted to invite friends and family over for a fun party to celebrate summer. Since we live in a tropical climate, I decided a Luau Party would be perfect.
Host a Hawaiian Luau
Before you host any party or event, you need to decide on your budget, time, and party space. We decided on all three aspects fairly quickly. We would host the party in our back yard, the budget was a few hundred dollars, and the party would be on the weekend after Memorial Day. Next, we decided on the guest list and sent out invitations. {The full printable party set is available in the shop now, read to the bottom for the link and coupon code}
Now it was time to work on the fun party details, the decor and food! Since I don’t have a whole lot of tropical Hawaiian decor around my house, I had to shop for most of the party decor. Oriental Trading Co. has everything you could ever need to decorate a Luau Party. I wanted a more vintage vibe, but with fun pops of color.
To help with the budget, I decided to make the food do double duty. I served snack foods, and a lot of fresh fruits. The fresh fruit added the perfect amount of color to the table, and offered a variety of snack options for our guests.
Luau Party Decorations
The hubs and I built a Lemonade Stand for some of my upcoming parties, and I thought it would be the perfect focal point for our Luau. I placed the stand on our party deck, in front of the counter. This changed up the look of our party deck so much! I stacked lanterns, fruit, tiki torches, and greenery on the counter behind the stand. On one side of the counter we had buckets of towels, leis, and water guns. We had coolers full of drinks and a shave ice machine on the other side of the counter.
The stand was topped with tropical leaves instead of a table cloth or runner. I hung a simple floral garland in front of the stand, and added more tropical lanterns and greenery in front of the stand. The stand served as a mini buffet for the party with samples of all of the delicious foods. I kept a lot of the food inside to keep it fresh.
Luau Food
Since we were hosting the party during the mid afternoon, I didn’t have to serve full meals. We skewered some chicken and grilled it with some Hawaiian seasoning. The chicken skewers were served on a bed of rice. I served fresh cut pineapple, watermelon, oranges, and kiwi in a fresh pineapple half. Extra pieces of fruit were skewered and soaked in rum for the adults to snack on or add to their drinks. I mixed a punch mocktail in my pineapple drink dispenser. It was perfect to pour over shaved ice and enjoyed with or without a splash of alcohol. The tiki drinking glasses were a big hit!
Hawaiian Luau Party Favors
My sweet niece loves all things Moana, so I ordered her a cute little Moana costume to wear to the party. She dutifully passed out small tiki boxes filled with tiny bubbles and coconut candies to the littler guests. The older guests took home tiki drinking glasses with small bottles of liquor and a Mai Tai recipe card.
