Since our family’s travel plans have been canceled (again) this year, I decided we are going to have a mini 4th of July bike and wagon parade. So, I started working on some of the DIY Patriotic Decor we would need for the parade. And, this cute little rag ribbon baton is perfect for bikes, wagons, parade walkers, and even sidewalk decor!

Red, White, and Blue Decorations

I go all out for Fourth of July. Our whole home gets decorated by the second week of May and stays red, white, and blue until Labor Day! This DIY Fourth of July Sign was a new addition last year, and I still love it so much.

DIY Patriotic Decor

I made this cute little rag ribbon baton with my niece in mind, but it turned out so cute, I will have to make some more!

I know my niece will want it on her bike, but I am going to make more for the wagon the dogs are riding in.

It’s super easy to make, and the kids can even help make it.

Make a Patriotic Ribbon Baton

This project is so easy! First, use the fabric scissors to snip the fabric every inch and a half to two inches. Then, tear the fabric into strips. Remove the excess string, and place in a pile. It took us less than five minutes to tear all three fat quarters. We had enough fabric strips to make 2-3 batons.

Next drill a hole into the PVC or wooden dowel rod.

Now, gather several pieces of each color fabric strips and use sports tape to secure the ends together. Then, push the fabric through the hole you drilled in your PVC or dowel rod.

Finally, wrap your dowel rod or PVC with sports tape. We had white at home, but there are tons of fun patterns and colors available too!
