St. Patrick’s Day Celebration with Cricut

Leprechaun Trap Rainbow

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration with Cricut

I can’t believe how fast this year is zipping by! It’s going to be Easter in a day, and next week it will be the Fourth of July…obviously I am kidding, but St. Patrick’s Day is literally less than a month away, and I know it will be here before I can blink. One of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day traditions with the boys was making a leprechaun trap. When they were younger, we would make a trap from old shoe boxes, cereal boxes, Tupperware containers…you name it, we tried it. Even though we weren’t ever successful in our quest, it was alway a fun activity.

Make a Leprechaun Trap:

Cricut Design Space has tons of cute bird house cut files, but I went with one that both Happiness is Homemade and Pineapple Paper Co. recently made to create our Leprechaun trap! Leprechauns like shiny, bright colors, so I used Cricut’s Iridescent Premium Vinyl, Gold Premium Vinyl, and Light Green Premium Vinyl on Cricut Chipboard. I also added a bright rainbow and clouds to the side of the trap. My Cricut Maker was used to make gold pieces to lure the leprechauns too. I used Cricut Gold Glitter Iron On, and applied it to both sides of a piece of Cricut Chipboard and then, I cut out 50 – 3/4″ circles. {Those were sent to cut two more times because of the additional layers of Iron On}

Happiness is Homemade shares detailed assembly instructions for the birdhouse/leprechaun trap on her blog.

Get the Cut File for the Trap here, and the rainbow here. Get the cut file for the gold coins here.

To Make These Projects, you will need:

Cricut Maker

Chipboard

Paper

Party Foil

Felt

Iron On

EasyPress

EasyPress Mat

Iron On Protective Sheet

Sewing Machine

Straws

Rosettes

Hot Glue Gun

Gold Coins:

STEP 1:

Use your EasyPress 2 to apply glitter Iron On to both sides of a piece of chipboard. See Cricut’s recommended guidelines for time and temperature settings.

STEP 2:

Open this cut file, and send the project to cut. On the cut page, select how many gold coins you want to make. I made 50.

STEP 3:

Send the project to cut, and allow it to cut two extra times to allow for the extra glitter Iron On.

Host a St. Patrick’s Day Party:

Of course, I couldn’t make a cute little leprechaun trap without having a little party too! This was a fun little party table to set up! The backdrop was the most complicated part of the whole party, and it was easy. I created a rainbow polka dot banner. {I made it the same way I made the Polka Dot Banner for my Polly Pocket Play Date} The front of the table looked a little boring, so I added cute felt shamrocks to the center of tissue paper rosettes, and hung them on the front of the table.

The tabletop needed something, so, I decided to use a nontraditional table cover, a scrap of astroturf. I have used this for football and soccer parties before, but I REALLY love it on this table! I used plastic gold coins as stepping stones for the leprechauns. A cupcake stand acted as a step to the cake plate full of gold and the leprechaun trap. One of my boys really loves silly hats, so I picked up a green leprechaun hat for the table {and for my son to have after the party} too.

Party Food:

It’s not a party without good food! I picked up some simple white cupcakes and a white cake for the party, along with some green cookies, and Skittles candies. We also served shamrock punch.

The cupcakes {and the cake} were topped with more felt shamrocks and plastic gold coins. I put the cupcakes on a cake plate with a treat cup full of skittles in the middle. I filled a simple white tray with Skittles and placed the frosted cookies on top. Finally, I trimmed the edge of the cake with Skittles in a red, orange, yellow, green, purple rainbow pattern.

This was such a fun table to set up, and it reminded me of when the boys were younger…I may have to recreate this party for the boys this St. Paddy’s Day! And, maybe one day I can take them to a big St. Patrick’s Day Parade…until then, I will just keep doing fun St. Patrick’s Day activities.
