Spooky Snacks. Every week after school we have a few friends over for snacks and goofing around before homework.  The kids all really look forward to it, and honestly, so do I.  Sometimes the kids come over and the house is a wreck and they are foraging for snacks in the pantry, other times, I can get my act together and actually have something fun set up for them before they get off the bus.  Last week was the latter, and it was so simple it’s scary. {pun intended, LOL}

Since I knew the kids were coming over, I ran to Walmart to grab a few things for them.  They LOVE PB&J sandwiches, and can typically eat 2 each after school, so when I saw the Welch’s Graham Slams! in the freezer section, I grabbed a few boxes!  (Get a fab coupon here for $1.oo off of one box, expires 12/31/16 or when supplies run out.  Must be redeemed with in two weeks of printing)  I love Welch’s grape jam, so I was super excited to see these at the store.  I have even gone back for a few more boxes because they are great for all the kids as a simple grab and go meal or snack. They are delicious frozen or thawed (and the crackers stay crispy, never soggy), with 7 grams of protein, no high fructose corn syrup, and 12 grams of whole grain, I am happy to give it to them! I also grabbed some cheese cloth, 8oz. sodas, and a small cake while I was at the store.

The weekend before the playdate, my boys and I made cheese cloth ghosts.  (Simply soak cheese cloth in liquid starch, wring it out, and drape over a jar with a styrofoam ball on top.  Allow to dry over night and add lights, eyes and a mouth, or leave it as is)  This was a super fun activity to do with the boys.

Since I had a little extra cheese cloth left over, I used it to cover the small soda cans.  I taped a pipe cleaner to each can and added a paper straw to the “hand” and covered the whole thing with a square of cheese cloth.  Simple and adorable!  I added our DIY ghosts and some lights to the table too.  Next, I made a cute little fondant ghost for the top of the cake.  (I rolled a piece of store bought fondant into a ghost like blob, and then rolled a thin sheet of fondant out with my rolling pin on a powdered sugar dusted surface.  I draped the sheet of fondant over the ghost like blob, and pinched and fluffed until I was happy.  Finally I added candy eyes with a touch of royal icing) It took me less than 5 minutes to make it and add it to the small store bought cake.  Then, just before the kids got home, I put the Welch’s Graham Slams! on a white serving tray on the table.  That was it!  The kids thought it was amazing, and it took maybe 10 minutes TOTAL to set up the whole table!

For less than 10 minutes of work, I am like super mom to my kiddo and his friends!

    That fondant ghost is so adorable! And I love the little pipe cleaner arms peeking out of the cheesecloth.
