To the parents and the students of the Class of 2020, my heart aches for you. I want you to have the same celebrations everyone else got. I want you to feel the same bittersweet joy that I felt when my son walked across the stage to accept his diploma. After talking with a lot of friends, I have come up with several alternative graduation celebrations that are almost as awesome as a traditional graduation party.
If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional.
Senior Graduation Car Parade
If you are able to coordinate it, have your seniors drive through your town in their cars.
This is a fun way for the class of 2020 to gather together – apart one last time and celebrate their accomplishments.
Oriental Trading will have Car Parade Kits available on their website soon!

Family and Friend Graduation Parade
Decorate your front yard and have friends and family drive by. If they want, they can honk and spray silly string.
I love being able to include friends and family in a celebration that adheres to social distancing guidelines. Check out this Drive Up Graduation Celebration idea for inspiration.
Town Signs for Graduates
If you are lucky enough to live in a smaller city, this is a great idea for any graduating class. Hang personalized Class of 2020 Banners on the light posts.
This is great for a Senior Parade too!

Door and Yard Decorations for Graduation
Make signs for the yard and garage door! Hang your graduate’s cap and gown, or sports uniforms on the front door.

Talk to Your School about Graduation Celebrations
I was sent a message this week about schools in Texas and TN celebrating their seniors in a special way.
At 8:20 each night for a week, the school will turn on their football and baseball field lights for 20 minutes. 8:20 is 2020 on a 24 hour clock. The school and coaches encouraged everyone to do the same with their porch lights as well.
I love this idea!
It is so very important to celebrate the Class of 2020, and I hope these ideas have inspired you!
