Country Music Awards Viewing Party. Y’all, I am so very excited to share this party with you! First, it means my local World Market Store is {finally} open, YAY! But, it’s also an opportunity for me to share a little about myself, and, I typically only share about parties or my kiddos. As a little girl, my dad listened to the classic country greats. He owned a laundromat, and it was always country music on the radio. We would work side by side cleaning the machines, or folding the laundry drop offs and talk with the music playing softly in the background. It was the soundtrack of my life with my dad. And, like every good song, just a few bars into a song will flood me with memories and emotions. When my dad passed away several years ago, we created a playlist of his favorite artists, y’all, all.the.memories filled my eyes. One song hit me, it was a Southern Rock/Country song from my childhood…I could vividly remember listening to it on the radio on a trip home from Kentucky with my parents. We stopped in TN a lot to stretch our legs, or play in the water along the interstate, I fell in love with Tennessee at just 4 years old. So, in honor of that trip, and my dad’s legacy, my husband and I bought a co-op vacation cabin in Tennessee when my dad passed. We have taken our children to the same rivers I played in as a child. We have taken them to the birthplace of country music, and showed them the stomping grounds of the musicians I grew up listening to. As an homage to my dad, each year we snuggle up on the couch and watch the CMAs and talk about some of my favorite musicians…It’s my connection to my dad, and it helps keep his memory alive for my own boys. (The photos below are the boys’ first trip to TN in 2012 and my dad in 1982 during my first trip) The CMA Fest will air on Wednesday, Aug. 16 (8:00-11:00 p.m./ET) on the ABC Television Network. This year’s hosts are Thomas Rhett & Kelsea Ballerini; with special guest performances by Sam Hunt, Dierks Bentley, Cole Swindell, Old Dominion, Kelsea Ballerini, Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Dustin Lynch, Thomas Rhett, Maren Morris, Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Dan +Shay, Brett Eldredge, Rascal Flatts, Brett Young, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, Karen Fairchild, Brothers Osborne, and Chris Young! (FOUR DAYS of SUPERSTAR MUSICAL PERFORMANCES in a jam packed 3 hour television event) For more information, visit CMAfest.com. Cost Plus World Market attended the 2017 CMA Music Festival in Nashville, June 8-11th. They held meet-and-greets with seven world-famous country superstars, including Scotty McCreery, Easton Corbin, Maddie & Tae, Thompson Square, RaeLynn, Eric Paslay and Tyler Rich. (How awesome, right? I wish I could have attended!) CMA Music Festival directly benefits music education programs across the country, as every artist at the Festival donates their time, performing for free. The result of that generosity is that Festival proceeds support in- and after-school programs touching the lives of 1 million students nationwide through the work of the CMA Foundation.
This year, though, we are changing it up a little bit, we are hosting a party to watch the CMAs in the back yard. I wandered through my newly opened World Market store (in Clearwater, FL ) and filled my cart with amazing goodies for our party. Then, I gathered a few things from our house, and got to work setting up the party space before the big night!
I loved the little guitar from World Market, and it reminded me of one I had as a little girl, so I knew I had to have it for the party! Plus it matches the student guitars we already have. I also fell in love with a Hardware Bin Lazy Susan…I see them every time we go to TN, but, I never seem to have the room in the budget for a vintage one, or, let’s face it, the room in the car…I was so excited to see one at World Market. While I wander the aisles of World Market, I found an adorable pig cutting board, some Ball Canning Jars, and other goodies that remind me of our vacation home.
One of our favorite meals in Tennessee is pulled pork sandwiches, so I knew that would have to be on the menu for our party. We don’t have a smoker, but, we found a perfect alternative to smoking it. I’ll also fill the Hardware Bin with Bourbon Crunch Popcorn, and Moon Pie minis to snack on while we watched the CMAs.
[yumprint-recipe id=’112′]A good party always includes good entertainment, snacks, gourmet food and drinks, and good favors. We had some leftover moonshine from our recent trip to TN, but, I also made some homemade moonshine. (Look for that recipe on the blog soon) We served more of the Samuel Smith Organic Cider, sweet tea, and lemonade as well.
Since we have the entertainment covered, and the food and drinks covered, I needed to focus on the favors for the party. World Market had more than enough choices for that as well! I grabbed a few boxes of TN staples, Moon Pies, for favors. I also bought several boxes of Jack Daniels Praline Pecans for our guests.
We are so ready to celebrate the CMAs! How will you celebrate?
