Simple Cinco De Mayo Decor

Everyday Party Magazine Simple Cinco De Mayo Decor

Simple Cinco De Mayo Decor

This review is based strictly on my opinion.  Others may have a different opinion or experience with the product listed above.  I was provided the sample free of charge by the company or PR agency and I have given my honest opinion.  No other type of compensation was received for this review.
If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional. These commissions help to keep the rest of my content free, so thank you!
My family loves Cinco de Mayo *almost* as much as they love Thanksgiving…clearly, I have a house full of boys that love to eat.  They especially love when Cinco de Mayo doesn’t fall on a Tuesday, because then, they can have Taco Tuesday AND Mexican on Cinco de Mayo.  I feel like we could have Mexican food every single day and it would be ok with them!

Typically, I like to set up a big Cinco de Mayo fiesta, but this year I am recovering from knee surgery (again) and I can’t do too much.  However, I did have about 15 minutes and the supplies I needed on hand to make some crazy cute succulent containers for our Cinco dinner table.

Supplies:

Cricut

Cricut Print and Cut Vinyl

Empty Cans

Small Bowl

Make it Fun Styrofoam

Make it Fun Faux Succulents

Paper

Hot Glue

Bamboo Skewers

Baker’s Twine

Mini Rocks/Pebbles

First, clean the empty cans and remove the label.  Measure the can and make a label in Cricut Design Space.  I layered several images in the Access Library and cut two “squares” for each can label.  (The length of the label is larger than print and cut can handle, so I split it into two) You can see my design here.  Once I was happy with the layers, I flattened the images.  (Remember, I made two separate flattened images for each can)

Then, I printed on printable vinyl and sent them to the Cricut to cut.

While you are in Design Space, make your flags for the bunting.  I made mine about 3/4″ tall, but you can make them whatever size you like depending on your bowl size.

Once your can labels are cut, apply them to the cans.  Try to line up the flowers to match.  One of my cans was pretty dented (thanks to my boys’ stellar grocery stacking skills) so I ended up wrinkling the label more than I would have liked.

Use the can to cut the craft or floral foam by shoving the open end of the can down onto the styrofoam square.  (Or use the cylinder foam…I used what I had at home) I would do this over newspaper so clean up is easier.  Make sure you have about 1/2″ between the top of the can and the foam.  Next, stick a mini succulent half way into the foam, then, pour the pebbles on top of the foam, and finish sticking the succulent into the foam.

For the bowl, fill with foam.  Add several succulents, and cover the foam with rocks.

Next, hot glue the mini flags to baker’s twine.  Dry fit the skewers to see how many flags you will need.  I only needed about half as many as I made. Tie the twine to the skewer, and hot glue into place.

Ole!  Your table is now perfectly decorated for a fiesta, and you have time for a little siesta!
