Mermaid Tail Party Favors with The Cricut Scoring Wheel
Mermaid Tail Party Favors with The Cricut Scoring Wheel. Y’all I am sooooo excited to share this project with you! I have been playing with Cricut’s new Scoring Wheel tools for the Maker for a bit now, and I just love it so much!
As a party blogger, it’s super important for me to be able to create party accessories that are unique, but still easy enough that I won’t be a flustered mess when I try to make them. I also really try to have the favors fit the party theme.
Mermaids are my niece’s current obsession, so I thought it would be fun to try to create mermaid tail favor boxes…again, without totally driving myself crazy. I used a carrot and my favorite mermaid tail from Cricut Design Space and hid contours, welded, and even sliced some things to create a foldable mermaid tail favor box. The scoring wheel was released to HSN a few weeks ago and should be available online and in stores soon.
Mermaid Tail Party Favors Supply List:
Cricut Design Space Access and Cut File (I created this custom cut file by slicing and welding the mermaid tail cut file, and the 3-D carrot box cut file.)
Glitter Card Stock {I used heavy duty Glitter Card Stock in several colors with fine and chunky glitter}
I was able to cut two favor boxes from one 12×12 sheet of glitter card stock, and several mermaid tail embellishments from the chunkier glitter card stock.
Once my project was sized appropriately I sent the file to cut. The Maker will score the project first, and then cut it. I used the double wheel Scoring Wheel because of the thickness of the card stock. I was WILDLY impressed! Because the Scoring Wheel is part of the Cricut Maker’s Adaptive Tool System, they can use up to 10X the pressure possible with the Scoring Stylus, allowing you to make more projects than ever with ease! Design Space will recommend the single wheel or the double wheel depending on the material setting you select. Check out this graphic from Hey, Let’s Make Stuff for a detailed list of recommendations for the Scoring Wheels. Scoring Wheels create extra-deep score lines on your materials, so you can get perfect folds. The double wheel makes two parallel creases on the material and is recommended for thicker or specialty materials, and the double crease makes it easier to fold those thicker, specialty materials without cracking. {You can see the double score lines on the tails in the image below}
Once the boxes were cut, I folded them along the score lines, and hot glued it together. Next, I hot glued the mermaid tail embelisshment to the top of the tail.
Finally, I filled the boxes with fake pearl necklaces, and hot glued the bottoms shut.
I can assure you my niece and her friends were SO excited!
