DIY Wooden Adventure Banner

Everyday Party Magazine Tips and Tricks for Cutting Wood with Your Cricut Maker #CricutMaker #CricutMade #DIY #KnifeBlade

Hey guys! I’m Lindsay with the blog seeLINDSAY and I blog about parties, crafting and the occasional fun recipe. Today on Everyday Party I’m going to show you how to create this easy wooden Adventure Banner. I used my Cricut Maker with the new knife blade and it’s so easy!

To start you’ll need some basswood. You can use balsa wood but it is very fragile and can break. When you put this much time and energy into something, you want it to last. I just grabbed some at Hobby Lobby for around $8 a sheet. It is 8″x24″.

SUPPLIES
  • BASSWOOD
  • CRICUT MAKER
  • KNIFE BLADE
  • STRONG GRIP MAT
  • MASKING TAPE
  • TWINE
  • CRICUT DESIGN SPACE FILE

Take your strong grip mat and peel off the plastic sheet. Place your basswood on the corner mark and then tape it down to your mat securely.

Open the Cricut Design Space file and select Make It. It will ask you to select your material and just search for basswood. You can choose 1/16″ or 1/32″, select the setting to what it says on your material info sticker.

Load it into the machine and then select the Go button and watch the Cricut Knife Blade do its thing. This banner took around 30 minutes to cut.

The Cricut Knife Blade is not fast by any means but it does cut thicker and more durable materials. Because of this, the knife blade works as if it’s a xacto knife and cutting it deeper with each pass.

I have this wooden Adventure Banner hanging about my little boy’s crib and it looks darling. It fits in with the wild theme of his bedroom. He’s also wild but that’s another story. Click on the picture to make that adorable Where the Wild Things Are nursery art. 😉Making things with your Cricut can be intimidating but you won’t know what you can and can’t do unless you try it. This is an easy beginner project for using the Cricut Knife Blade so give it a shot.
