DIY Bed for Dolls and Elves

Elf on a Shelf in beds Christmas Tree

DIY Elf on the Shelf Bed

My niece and nephew’s elves will be visiting the kids next week, so, I decided to make each elf their very own bed. Because, maybe I am the crazy aunt, maybe I am the cool aunt…who knows, really.

This review is based strictly on my opinion.  Others may have a different opinion or experience with the product listed above.  I was provided the sample free of charge by the company or PR agency and I provided my honest opinion. No other type of compensation was received for this review.
If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional. These commissions help to keep the rest of my content free, so thank you!

It’s really pretty simple to make your own Elf on the Shelf bed {or doll house bed}, you just a few things, and a few minutes of active work.

Elf Bed Supplies:

Cricut Maker and Knife Blade

Cricut Chipboard and Strong Grip Mat

Design Space Access

Masking Tape

Paint

Xyron Creative Station

Optional: Fabric, Blanket Binding, and Pillow Fluff

Open this cut file, I manipulated images and shapes in Design Space to create this bed, so it cannot be resized. {The slots and hooks will change size and you won’t be able to slide the bed together} Prepare the chipboard and cutting mat to be cut. This project will use two pieces of chipboard for each bed. {If you make two beds, you can use one piece of chipboard for both bed rails and support pieces} This cut will take a while, and you may want to send it through one or two times extra.

Once each bed is cut, you can paint it. I used two coats of spray paint on each bed.

Next, run each bed support {the thin rectangles} through the Xyron Creative Station, and apply them to the side rails of the bed. These will support the bed’s “bunky board”.

DIY Elf Bed Assembly

Finally, assemble the beds. Slide the side rails into the head and footboards, and then place the bunky board on top. It’s quite possibly the easiest bed assembly ever!

At this point, you can be done, or you can be the crazy person that makes bedding for an elf…but, if you’ve made a bed, you really should make the bedding.

Make the bedding:

I roughly measured the bed’s dimensions and quickly sewed a pillow style mattress pad for the bed with inexpensive snowflake fabric. {One fat quarter was enough material for both mattress pads with a little extra.} Next, I cut some fabric for the blanket, and added some trim around the edges. After I was done, I realized how stinking cute it would have been to put pom pom trim on the blankets.

These beds were really pretty simple to make, and they are SO.DARN.CUTE!! I want to make all the Elf furniture now! DIY Elf on a Shelf Bed
