Vintage Plane Birthday
Brenda from GreatStitch does amazing embroidery and sewing, I have been so lucky to have her contribute to a few of my parties…but, she also throws awesome parties! This vintage plane birthday party is the type of birthday party little boys dream of!
From Brenda:
For many little men their first true love is airplanes. They dream of soaring high into the clouds. John Magee described this feeling in High Flight: “Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings. Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of.” He was a pilot and knew exactly what he was talking about!
The background for the wall sign was a large print of airplane plans. My daughter Rhonda found this design online, and then learned that Staples will print them out as a blueprint poster for just $7.50! What a great find that was….my mind wanders at the thought of all the backgrounds I can now create. She always adds so much talent and so many great ideas to our parties! We also used an old Time Magazine photo and found a sign at Hobby Lobby that screamed paint me navy and add chevron fabric.
Most of the shirt designs we use have numbers for the birthday, but this time we went with an initial with our original plane design. This makes a great year round option. As always, we can use a number. When you work with colors everyday like we do, new combinations are exciting! Navy is a beautiful tone that compliments so many things.
Mallory of Mallory Hall Photography was so kind to work with us again! Her talent behind the lens is remarkable! She captures lifetime moments and shares them with us.
We had to have snacks on our flight…and so I whipped up some cashew brittle to use instead of a plain bag of peanuts. This is from a vintage recipe I found digging through an old cookbook in an antique shop. It sort of fell out at me so we bought the book and took it home to try…it has been a favorite ever since! We will post the handwritten recipe later on.
This little Mustang was our inspiration for the party. We found him at an estate sale and loved the navy and orange together. Model airplanes are a great way to connect with boys!
Matching napkins say something special, and I think they communicate important things to kids about being able to reuse something and it being really lovely. At GreatStitch we have a line of napkins that will match any decor. With the napkin ring, you can change out any of the details.
Carry home all the treasures with this adorable tote bag.
Rounding out the food selections were pimento cheese sandwiches cut into the shape of planes with a cookie cutter, giant marshmallows dipped in colored chocolate to serve as clouds, and darling clementines (cuties) for a healthy snack. Stickers for water bottles can always be done quickly! Fly away with us for this birthday party!
And, as always, we love posting the pics of our little people making great faces, nothing brightens my day like a little kiddo! Here is our little man Carter and his best cheesy grin. Can’t you just hear him saying, “Cheese?”
