Pirate Party with Cricut. School is out for the summer (yay), we have a fabulous newly renovated back yard, and there are TONS of new movies that will be released over the next few months! One of the movies I am most excited about is the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I could literally listen to the music from those movies all day on repeat. Plus, I love all things Disney. So, to kick off our Summer, I hosted a fun pirate themed party in the back yard, complete with a DIY pirate ship. Be sure to read all the way to the end for a chance to win your own Cricut Explore Air 2!!! We have hosted several pirate themed parties for our boys over the years, but I think this one is my favorite by far! I used my Cricut to create a ton of custom decorations, and the space was so perfect for entertaining. Guests were welcomed to the house with a DIY pirate door wreath, and fun pirate eye patches. We set up the party in our new party space, and added a pirate ship in the yard next to the party space. I built a simple mast for the party space using old outdoor curtains and inexpensive furring strips. Sisal rope held the curtain up to look like a sail, and small jolly roger flag was perfect at the top. I set up snacks, party favors, some drinks, and pool towels on the bar. My friend, Fern and Maple Events sent me a huge box of pirate goodies and party favors, including the beads, shells and jewels I used on the table as table scatter. I added an inexpensive fish net to the table as well. I used my Cricut to make food tents, bottle wrap embellishments, pirate party hats, and even a cake plate and cake pop stand!
Since the party was after dinner, we served sweet treats. Sweetly Dipped Confections made the sweetest and yummiest pirate cake pops I have ever seen! They were gone in minutes. The kids were enamored with the cake pops with the treasure maps, the adults were cracking up over the cake pops with stubble beards! The attention to detail was spot on! My friend recently brought me some amazing rum cakes from Bootlegger Bakery, and ummm, rum cake = pirate party in my mind. I added a simple store bought vanilla cake to the table too, and embellished it with two cake pops minus the sticks from Sweetly Dipped Confections. I cut a watermelon in half and made masts and sails with bamboo skewers and paper towels, I added blueberries on the tray too. And can we all just take a minute to check out those amazing hook food picks?? Ribbon wrapped drinks were displayed in a metal bucket, for bigger parties, I keep several of each of the drink choices out of the coolers for everyone to see what is available without having to dig through the ice. I filled a glass apothecary jar with chocolate donut hole cannon balls. Small wooden treasure chests from Fern and Maple Events were filled with candy coins too.
The kids swam, treasure hunted, played on the pirate ship, and even built mini pirate ships. The highlight of the party was definitely the pirate ship. My hubby and I built it with fence pieces and 2×4’s. I made a couple of masts for the pirate ship the same way I did for the backdrop, but I also made an awesome pirate flag with tea stained white canvas and Cricut Iron On Vinyl. Next to the pirate ship, we added another pirate flag, some awesome bones from Oriental Trading Company and eventually a chest of treasures. While the kids hunted for the treasure in the neighborhood, I placed the treasure chest behind the pirate ship next to all the bones.
The kids took home their pirate hats, pockets full of beads, and candy coins, pirate eye patches, wooden treasure boxes, and small floating pirate ships. Be sure to check back this week for a few DIY’s from this fun party!
