Memorial Day Party
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kick off to summer for our family {like most}. We typically host a Memorial Day Party for our friends and family. It’s a great time to open the pool and let the kids get a taste of summer. It’s also a time to be thankful for the opportunities we have been afforded by the service men and women that have sacrificed everything for our freedoms.
Memorial Day Weekend
The last several years, we have had a hockey tournament on Saturday and Sunday, and then we host our party on Monday. However, this year, we don’t have any tournaments and we will host our party on Saturday.
Preparing For the Party
Since I have already decorated most of the inside of the house, I decided to decorate our party deck in preparation for our upcoming party. Last Summer, I found an American flag on clearance. I knew it would be perfect for our space, so I carefully hung it on the back wall. The party deck stays lit all night long to help deter nighttime critters, so the flag won’t ever be in the dark.
I recently picked up a few potted plants on clearance and they were the perfect pop of color on the bar. I added fresh Hydrangea blossoms to a metal container, and baby’s breath to empty vegetable cans. Finally, I added a small pot of mini mums to a white metal bucket.
I pulled out our vintage milk cooler for ice, and a smaller metal bucket for bottled Coca-Cola.
Since I spent most of the day outside cleaning up and preparing for our Memorial Day activities, I thought it would be fun to enjoy a game of patriotic checkers. We all enjoyed a slice of cake and an ice cold bottle of Coke after a long day of cleaning up the yard.
If you liked this patriotic celebration, be sure to check out some of these too!
