Cinco De Mayo Party
Cinco De Mayo Party Everyday Party Magazine. I feel like I need to share a little back story about this party…my mom has a dog, a chihuahua, that EVERYONE in the family ADORES! Like, truly adores…and when she got him, we all started talking to him with a horrible Mexican accent. We all decided his name would be Benito Rodriguez…fast forward ten years, and our Benny is having a milestone birthday, and my mom suggested we have a dog party for him. Of course it had to be a Cinco de Mayo themed party!
For this party, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, and I really wanted it to have a Tex Mex restaurant vibe. We made tacos for dinner and set the table as a serve yourself taco bar with Mexican (real sugar) sodas. A party is not a party without ice cream and cake, and with the help of My Sweet Things, I think I made a fairly nice looking naked cake, and I picked up some Choco Tacos from Walmart for the kids. My sister made these fabulous Oreo Tacos we found online for the kids to eat too!
I used my big chalkboard to make a taco bar sign, and painted a closet door we have had in our garage for too long with Rust-O-Leum Satin Aqua. But, that left a gap…it’s a good thing I am a party hoarder save left over party supplies, because I was able to reuse ruffled crepe paper to fill in the gap!
Fruits and veggies in colorful nesting bowls from Crate and Barrel and wooden berry boxes from Bloom Designs Online, and a small bouquet of flowers were almost all the table needed for decoration, but I added some pottery my dad gave me when I was a teenager, and a small piñata from Target to the table too. The cake got a small Picado banner I cut out using clip art. I used baker’s twine from Pick Your Plum and hot glued the flags on, and then tied it to paper straws.
I hung a Picado banner criss crossed over the table, and I created an Aye Chihuahua banner to hang above the table too! Stef suggested it, and it was perfect, because my dad used to say Aye Chihuahua all the time!
I did buy Benny an ADORABLE poncho and sombrero for his celebration, and much to our delight, he wore it for the entire party!
I created free printable tags, and the Aye Chihuahua banner. Please remember free printables are for personal use only. They cannot be edited, altered, or resold.
