Royal Baptism
LAURA’S little PARTY always hosts the most amazing celebrations for her family and friends, and her little prince’s Royal Baptism is no exception!
From Laura:
When planning our last child’s baptism, I knew I wanted something royal. He is, after all, our littlest {and last} handsome Prince.
I started right away with the planning, and gathering of party props. I wanted to make a background that resembled a castle wall. I’ve seen this done before, and thought it was amazing! The castle wall project was pretty easy. I’ll explain what I did, later in my post.
I did a lot of DIY projects to create my vision of a royal celebration. I painted many things with Rustoleum’s metallic gold paint, which was fabulous to work with!
Because it was an afternoon event, we served sandwiches, fruit, veggies, and salad. We had a simple menu of chicken salad sandwiches, fruit cups, veggie cups, and kale salad. {not shown} It worked as the perfect afternoon lunch. I took an antique dresser, and painted it with Rustoleum Metallic gold spray paint. It worked perfectly as a food display. The guests nibbled on sweet treats created by my talented friend Nicole from Bella’s Bakery & Bowtique. The Oreo cups were embellished with gold dusted crowns and placed upon a matching gold and blue cake stand. Minted and Vintage provided the beautiful gold glittered servers. Aracely was seriously the sweetest to work with, and she provided exceptional customer service! My dear friend, Blanca, from Creativities Galore, created the sparkly gold crown toppers. They were simply beautiful!
For his royal celebration, our little Prince had his very own “throne”. I sprayed his wooden high chair with Rustoleum‘s Metallic gold spray paint. It covered beautifully, and my guests really loved it too!
Lemonade & tea were served in drink dispensers that sat on top of gold stands. Miriam Corona Events supplied these for the event. They were perfect! I sprayed my drink cart, and decorated the champagne glasses {from Dollar tree} with Mod Podge, and gold glitter. I added gold sparkly vinyl crowns, made on my silhouette machine, and added them to paper cups from Dollar Tree. A painted Mason jar held the paper straws.
My backdrop was created by covering a piece of plywood with striped wrapping paper. I found the roll at HomeGoods, and couldn’t pass it up! I gave my bubble gum machine a little royal makeover by spraying it gold, adding blue gum balls, and a plastic crown for the top.
I made a wreath for under $6. It was a bit time consuming, but not impossible to create. I used a pool noodle, and coffee filters from Dollar Tree. {I painted the tips of the coffee filters with a small brush} The gold crown I picked up from the 99cent only store. I purchased an unfinished wooden cross from Walmart, and painted it gold.
Each place setting had a lunch menu, displaying what food was offered. The cute centerpieces were very inexpensive to create. I found this decorative pail in Target‘s Dollar spot. You guessed it… I painted it gold. I added some pretty cream colored faux flowers from Dollar Tree, and created a few of these centerpieces, for $2 each.
It was such a beautiful day, celebrating our little Prince’s baptism. We were surrounded by so much love & support from our family, and special friends.
To create the faux castle wall, I found many ideas on Google. The one that sounded the most simple to me, called for big sheets of styrofoam. I picked up three large panels from Home Depot. I used 1 panel to slice up into “bricks” and the other two panels were my castle walls. The foam was cut very easily with a kitchen steak knife. I attached the bricks by sponging on Mod Podge to the backs of each piece. I spaced them out, and placed them on the panels to resemble the same pattern as a real brick wall. Once the bricks were laid, I let them dry over night. I then took some gray spray paint, and lightly coated my bricks. I didn’t paint them evenly, which helped achieve my faux wall look. This was also an inexpensive DIY project.
