It’s Craft Lightning, Glitter! And, I am sharing the cutest DIY ever! Before we moved into our home, my oldest son’s greatest worry was Santa not being able to get in the house. He was so very relieved to see a chimney in the house when we moved. And all these years later, he will still put the old Santa Key out, just in case. He’s a very sentimental young man.
Make Santa’s Magic Key
Even though we have a chimney (and bigger kids), my niece and nephew don’t have a chimney at their house, and my little niece mentioned how hard it must be for Santa to get into houses without a fireplace.
Of course I can’t let her believe Santa is struggling to get into her house! So, I made her a very special Magic Key to leave out for Santa.
So, this year when we fill out her Printable Letter to Santa, I will give her a new Magic Santa Key.
Supplies
I was able to get the supplies for Santa’s Magic Key at Target and Amazon. I purchased a wooden letter S tag and silver glitter from the Dollar Spot. Then, I ordered skeleton keys from Amazon. I already had Mod Podge and a paint brush at home.
This darling project took less than 15 minutes to make, excluding drying time.

- S – you could make a chipboard one with your Cricut Maker
- Silver Glitter
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brush
- Skeleton Key
Step 1
Begin by painting a thin layer of Mod Podge on the letter S. I prefer to use the spray on Mod Podge, it’s thinner so it spreads easier for me.
Step 2
After you cover the top of the S with Mod Podge, sprinkle glitter on top. You may need to use your paint brush to cover the whole letter
Step 3
Allow to dry.
Step 4
I repeated steps one and two 3 more times.
Step 5
Cover with one more coat of Mod Podge to keep the glitter from flaking off.
Step 6
Use ribbon to tie a skeleton key to the letter S.
Now you are ready for Santa to visit whether you have a chimney or not.
