We are just starting our season of holiday parties and I am so very excited to share this Polar Bear Party with you. Each year since my boys were toddlers, we have hosted after school holiday parties. This year we did things a little differently, and hosted our party on the weekend with some of my niece and nephew’s friends. And, I think our Polar Bear Party was one of the best we’ve ever had! I think it’s the perfect way to Share in the Magic during the holiday season.
Polar Bear Party Decorations
I really wanted the party to feel like the arctic. I used card board boxes to create icebergs for the backdrop and party play area. I also used a snow blanket and buffalo snow on the party tables. A small inflatable polar bear was perfect for photos and decor. And, even though penguins live in the antarctic, I picked up a few small inflatable penguins for pictures and party decor. Finally, I used a few stuffed polar bears, Coca-Cola® Bears, and a white seal to decorate the table.
I added another iceberg back drop to the food table, and a second snow blanket. But, I used risers for the food and drink area. I wanted to add a little more magic to the food table, so I hid fairy lights under the snow. I filled a bowl full of ice and more cold Coca-Cola® for all of the guests.
Polar Bear Party Food
I wanted the food to be something the kids would enjoy making and eating. Before the party, I made a variation of pinwheel sandwiches. They were as easy to make as they were delicious and adorable. First, I spread cream cheese on two flour tortilla shells. Then, I layered cheese and cold cuts on one tortilla, and topped it with the second tortilla shell. Finally, I used cookie cutters to cut out fish and penguin shapes.
During the party, the littler guests were encouraged to make polar bear sandwiches and penguin apples and banana treats.
The polar bear sandwiches were just open faced bagels with cream cheese. We used cold cut circles to add a dimensional nose. I pre-cut cold cut circles in half for the ears. And, yogurt covered raisins were perfect to use as eyes and a button nose. The kids really enjoyed making their own meals.
The apple and banana penguins were a little more difficult to make for the kids, but they still had fun. Before the party, I sliced apples and cored them. Then, I spread a layer of peanut butter on each one. I also pre-cut bananas and small carrot noses. Once the guests arrived, they used hazelnut spread to add the dark color to the penguins. Then, they used more raisins to add eyes, and pieces of carrots for the nose. Finally, they stuck the banana penguins onto the apple slices and sprinkled coconut shreds on top for snow.
Polar Bear Party Games
A party is hardly a party without fun games and activities! I set up a fun bowling area for the kids. I used empty bottles filled with with paint as bowling pins, and an inflatable ball as the bowling ball.
The kids also painted and played with ice. I also filled snack bowls with handheld games and small puzzles for the kids to play with.
This was such a fun party for everyone, and I am so glad I was able to host another holiday party for the kids!
