Marquee Letters
Brandi from Painted and Sprinkled shared her cozy Date Night with the Oscars in the Spring 2014 issue of Everyday Party Magazine, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t more than a little in LOVE with her Marquee Letters! Lucky for all of us, she is sharing the DIY for them!
Brandi shares the DIY steps with photos below.
From Brandi:
I bought paper mache letters, a can of red Krylon spray paint (both letters and paint bought at JoAnn’s with coupons!), and a string of Christmas light to make my featured DIY projects. I thought the Hollywood feel the lights gave would be the perfect addition to this date night. It gave the perfect glow to the room!
Supplies:
one box of round pearl lights
one can of spray paint
paper mache letters
drill and drill bit
sharpie pen
Mark your letters with a dot evenly down the midline with a sharpie.
Drill a hole through each mark, being careful not to drill through other side.
On the opposite side of the letter, drill another hole, making it a bit larger than drill piece itself.
Take the sharpie and push through each hole. This makes the edges smooth.
Spray paint your letters and let dry.
Take your strand of lights and remove the bulbs. Then thread through back of letter first, then pull through to the front and reattach the bulbs.

Thank you for sharing such a unique and AWESOME idea! Your steps seem very clear to follow. I think I’m going to make a sign that says READ for my classroom library area!

Oh that sounds AWESOME!! What grade do you teach?

She made the word OSCAR. I would think you would need 2-3 strands at least…
Pam says
what did you do with the excess string of lights? I am using 3 letters and will have about 1/3 of the string left.
Thanks!

I have hidden the lights on past projects or even blacked out the lights by putting burned out bulbs in the strand.
Briana says
What size letters were used?!
Thanks,

I’m not sure, but they are from JoAnn’s
everydaypartymagazine says
The lights are from Target US and the letters are from JoAnn Fabrics US
Sarah says
I can’t find those exact lights but have found similar ones. Any idea the size of the globes on the bulbs? The ones I found were 8mm but I didn’t know if they would be too small?!

You know, I am not sure…I think it would be ok…Target had the metal marquee lights before Christmas and those lights were fairly small
