There is nothing better than walking into a clean home that is full of the smells of the season. So, on days that I will be home all day, you can find me cleaning in the morning, with holiday music playing on the HomePod, and a pot full of fruits and seasonings simmering on the stove. This holiday simmer pot recipe is my favorite base recipe, because you can add just about anything to it to customize it for your own personal preference!
If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional.
Holiday Recipes
If I am not cleaning up my home, I am making a mess baking. But, I love the smell of freshly baked treats almost as much as I love the crisp smell of a clean home.
These are a few of my favorite treats to bake throughout the holiday season.
Holiday Simmer Pot Recipe
This recipe is super easy, but it does take a little bit of time to dry out the apples and oranges in the oven. And, you don’t need any special tools or supplies to make this! However, I did find that a mandoline slicer and parchment paper made the job and cleanup a lot easier. Check out my Amazon Shop for some of my favorite kitchen tools, or click the links below to purchase each item individually.
Simmer Pot Recipe Supplies
- Baking Sheet
- Parchment Paper
- Mandoline Slicer or Sharp Knives
- Heavy Pot
- Cello Bags
- Jute, twine, or ribbon
Simmer Pot Recipe Ingredients
- Two Apples
- Two Oranges
- 1 Bag of Cranberries
- Cinnamon Sticks
- Star Anise
- Fresh Rosemary
- Optional – Nutmeg, Allspice, and even Fresh Christmas Tree Branch Pieces
Begin by slicing your apples and oranges into thin slices. Then, place them on a parchment lined baking sheet, and bake in the oven at 200* for several hours. I bake them for an hour or so, and then I flip them and bake for another hour. If they aren’t dry yet, flip them again and bake them until they are fully dry. (This also make your home smell AMAZING!)
Once the apples and oranges are dry, package them in cello bags with cranberries, cinnamon sticks, and star anise or other seasonings. Tie the bags with jute or twine and they are ready to gift (or keep) this holiday season!
I simmer mine in my enamel dutch oven on the stovetop. I just refill it with water throughout the day.
