I was recently sent an enormous box of Sculpey Clay and tools…I will admit, I was a tad overwhelmed at first, but, my sweet friend Laura Kelly told me to just play with it, I couldn’t mess it up! So, I molded it, I rolled it out, I squished it through my fingers and I felt like a kid. Then, I got to work making gift bag tags.
My mom loves critters of all kinds, so I thought it would be fun to embellish a simple gift bag with my Sculpey Clay Laura Kelly style critters.
It really was pretty simple to make my project (and the several others I have made since then)! I rolled out the Sculpey Clay. Then I used a stencil I cut using my Sizzix and Laura Kelly Designs Dies to carefully cut the clay. I rolled little pieces of black clay to make eyes, and red to make a tongue. I also used the Sculpey Clay texture roller to add designs on the clay. Once I was happy with how it looked, I baked the clay according the the package directions. I have since learned I need to make smooth cuts to have smooth edges, and I would also roll the clay a little less so it stayed thicker.
After the lizard, snake, and dragonflies were dry and cool I was ready to start decorating the gift bag! I drilled a small hole in the top of the dragonfly to add baker’s twine to hang it from the bag handle. I added foam mounting squares to the backs of the lizard and snake and stuck them to the bag.
Finally, I added the gift, and topped with tissue paper from Cost Plus World Market.
I am hosting a Medieval Knight Party soon, so we have started making small dragons for the cupcakes, wish us luck!
