Simple Homemade Chips Recipe

Homemade Potato Chips

I think I could just about eat my weight in chips, hot dogs, hamburgers, and watermelon during the Summer months. But, I really have fallen out of love with store-bought chips. They tend to taste fake and over-processed. So, this simple homemade chips recipe is on repeat during the Summer. And, since they are fried, you can pop the leftovers in the freezer, reheat them later, and have fresh-tasting warm chips!

If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional.

Summer Food

Living in Florida Summer food usually means no cooking, no baking, no anything that could possibly make the house hotter. However, I can be enticed to make some of my favorite foods during the summer months.

These Rice Krispie Treat S’mores are perfect for the summer. You don’t have to make the house or kitchen hot, and you can roast food over the fire!

And, you can almost always find this Simple Summer Salad in my fridge during the Summer months!

Homemade Potato Chips and Coke

Friends, these chips are super easy to make, even if I do have to cook in the kitchen to make them! You only need three ingredients to make a basic salted potato chip, but you can top them with aioli, blue cheese crumbles, or whatever else your heart desires.

Mandoline Slicer

I do highly recommend using a mandoline slicer to cut the potatoes into thin slices. You could use a sharp kitchen knife, but the mandoline cuts uniform slices in seconds. I have this one, and I love it.

While you wash your potatoes, start warming cooking oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Then, slice the potatoes. I cut three regular-sized baking potatoes and it was more than enough for our meal. In fact, I had enough chips to fill a quart-sized freezer bag. So, I stored the extras in a ziplock bag and put them in the freezer. When I want to enjoy chips again, I will just reheat them in the oven at 350* for about 10 minutes.

Homemade Potato Chips

Once the potato slices are cut, carefully put a handful of potato slices into the warmed oil. Allow them to cook until they are brown on both sides. Remove the chips from the oil and place them on a paper towel covered plate and sprinkle with salt to taste. Repeat until you have enough chips to feed your family.
