Celebrate Read Across America

Orange Party Favor Bags

Did you know that March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s Birthday? Each year from March 2-6 is Read Across America week. And, as a former teacher, I loved this week! We celebrated the author’s birthday with fun reading activities, Wacky Wednesday, and finally, we honored the Lorax and planted seeds. This year, I am helping my mom celebrate Read Across America in her classroom, and I have some fun activities planned already.

Dr. Seuss Activities

When the boys were younger, they loved to go to the library to check out books. They really enjoyed putting all of their books in their special library tote bags. This Dr. Seuss Library Book Bag DIY would have been perfect for their library days!

My youngest son loved making this Simple DIY Dr. Seuss Inspired Craft for his classmates.

Celebrate Read Across America

The NEA has fun reading activities scheduled every year for Read Across America Week. But, even if you can’t attend in person, you can still celebrate.

When I was a teacher, and then when the boys were younger I would gather all of our Dr. Seuss books and put them out for the kids to read. We would make Cat in the Hat hats, plant trees for the Lorax, and read Go Dogs, Go on repeat.

This year, I made some Lorax-inspired treat bags to give to my mom’s students. They will have red fish candies, seed packages, and book markers for the kids inside.

These cute little bags are super easy to make, and you only need a few supplies.

Lorax Treat Bag

There are twelve sets of mustaches and eyebrows on each printable sheet, and twelve orange favor bags in the package I bought. First, print as many sheets as you will need. Then, cut the eyebrows and mustaches out. Next, attach them to the bags with tape or glue. Finally, fill with treats!
