Simple Christmas Art DIY
Disclosure: This project is being considered for a prize as part of the Cricut Design Space Star Challenge from Cricut. If you would like to pin this project, please pin from here.
This is my third and final project for the Cricut Design Space Star Challenge, and I love this one just a little bit more than the last two! November’s challenge category was Holiday Crafts and Gear and our team, Design Team 14 , chose a Dreamy White Holiday theme. I am sharing a simple Christmas art DIY project with you.
There are a lot of steps for this project, I didn’t even include the DIY for the frame. This project could be recreated without having to make your own frame very easily.
Supplies:
Cutting Mat
A large frame or materials to buy a frame
Silver paint (I used Rust-O-Leum Metallic Silver)
White Paint (I used Rust-O-Leum White 2x)
Background wood or frame
Contact paper or inexpensive vinyl
Silver contact paper
Since I have a lot of scrap wood in the garage, I chose to make my project using what I had on hand already, so this project cost me very little. I painted my background wood silver. If you are using a frame, you could use card stock or the frame back. While the paint dried, I started working on the text in Cricut Design Space.
(I decided not to add the star to the final project) After the text was cut, and the silver paint was dry, I laid out the letters in their places on the board. If you are using card stock make your vinyl or contact paper less sticky by sticking it on your shirt a few times before you place it on the paper. It will allow the vinyl to stick, without peeling the paper when you remove it.
Once I was satisfied with the letter placement, I spray painted the entire board white. Then, I removed the vinyl to reveal the silver underneath.
At this point, my husband and I cut the frame to fit the board using moulding. Once it was cut to size, I sprayed painted it the same color silver as the base coat on the wood board. I then glued and nailed the moulding into place.
I really loved the project as is, and I think it would be such a great addition to a nursery as is. However, I wanted to add a little more to the board, so I cut a Nativity scene I found in the Cricut store out of silver vinyl and added it to the bottom.
This little project is the centerpiece for our fireplace mantel and is the envy of our extended families.
I may use a fine grit sandpaper and rough it up a little too.
Be sure to check out the rest of my team’s projects too!
