Medieval Celebration

Medieval Celebration

I am a Laura Kelly Design team member: I receive select products free of charge.  This review is based strictly on my opinion.  Others may have a different opinion or experience with the product listed above.  I was provided the sample free of charge by the company or PR agency and I have given my honest opinion.  No other type of compensation was received for this review!

If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional. These commissions help to keep the rest of my content free, so thank you!

My littler kids rarely get tired of my (weekly) parties.  But, this is one they were super excited about!  Who wouldn’t love a medieval celebration?  We invited a few friends over for an afternoon of sword fights, tunic making, and medieval fun!

The first thing I did was choose invitations, thank you cards, and stickers from Laura Kelly for Expressionery.  Then, I went to ShopLauraKelly.com and grabbed a few coordinating printable activities for the kiddos to take home in their goodie bags.   (You can get invitations there too) I also reached out to my friends at Kunin Group Felt and they graciously sent me loads of felt for our party! Once I had those supplies, I was almost ready to party!

I used my castle wall backdrop for the table.  But, I also made a fun felt medieval banner (with some help from a friend that is a frequent preforming guest at our local RenFests), and some smaller felt flag streamer banners to string across the room. (My Sizzix Big Shot and Sizzix Bigz XL Banner Big Die cut the felt like a champ!)  The front of our table was also skirted in felt and a felt flag streamer, but I left the top of the table uncovered.   I also made a fun cardboard chandelier, with my son’s help. I hung it with jute from the ceiling.  Finally, I spray painted a plastic beach castle grey and sprinkled gold coins on the table top.  It all really helped set the theme so well!

Of course our young Knights needed tunics, and swords, and this mama knows better than to give them the super cool wooden swords I saw and loved on Pinterest.  Instead, I made pool noodle swords with PVC handles and duct tape.  I pre-cut the felt tunics and the kids helped glue the emblems on them.

The kids worked up quite an appetite after all of their sword fights and tunic making, so they were happy to nibble on fresh fruits, cheeses, breads, crackers, candies, and of course, cake!  We quenched their thirst with apple juice in fun cups from Oriental Trading Company.  I used inexpensive silver platters from the Dollar Tree, a burlap lined basket, and a large sliver trophy cup (I have had it for years)  to serve the food.  The apple juice was in a glass drink dispenser and a recycled glass bottle on top of a wooden cheese wheel box.

The kids had a wonderful time being knights, and it made a regular afternoon so much fun!
