Doggone Fun Birthday Party
We recently hosted a Doggone Fun Birthday Party for our son and a few friends. I wanted it to be a small celebration, that would be easy to put together and host. Summers are supposed to be more relaxed, but this summer has been nonstop go for our family.
My son is a little goofy and loves his fur brother. He also loved the book Go Dogs Go and has literally asked for a Dog Party since he was a toddler. So, as soon as I saw the package of dog greeting cards, I knew we would {finally} have the dog party my boy had asked for for years! I used a fun double sided wrapping paper for the backdrop AND the table cloth. I used a solid color wrapping paper and vinyl to embellish the backdrop with a wiener dog cut out wearing a party hat. I used the packaged cards for invitations and decor. They are blank inside, so I simply wrote the party details inside.
On the day of the party, my husband helped me staple some wrapping paper to a fabric frame we already have. It was a super simple way to reuse something we already own, and make it new again. You could very easily just use ticky tac or push pins to attach wrapping paper to a wall too. Once the wrapping paper was attached to the frame, I added the fun party dog to the center with mounting tape and a little hot glue. I placed the table right in front of the backdrop, and covered the table with more wrapping paper. I just used the reverse side for a little more visual interest. I hung tissue paper tassels and more of the dog cards on the front of the table. I made the tassels before the party. They are a little tedious, but not too difficult. Take one sheet of tissue paper and fold in half. Cut tabs in the tissue paper 1/2″ apart, and about 2″ away from the fold. Open the tissue paper, and roll so the cuts are on each side, and the not cut part is in the middle. Fold in half again, and twist around a pencil to create a hole for the ribbon or twine. Thats it! We made several in just a few minutes.
We had a puppy adoption at the party. I ordered some cute little stuffed puppies for each guest to adopt and take home, but first, they had to fill out the adoption paperwork. I found the cute adoption printables on Chickabug’s blog, and they were perfect for our party. I put the adoptable puppies in a large box we had at home, I just wrapped it with some of the extra American Greetings wrapping paper, and added a folded blanket for them to sit on. The kids made doggie cookies, played fetch, and even learned a few simple dog training commands during the party.
After all that hard work, the kids worked up an appetite. We served the kids in dog bowls, of course! Before the party, I had the boys make puppy chow, and we all made dog bone shaped cookies together. I used a dog shaped cookie cutter to cut out fondant dogs for the cake, and to make dog shaped sandwiches. We also had doggie kibble cereal, dog bone graham crackers, and grapes {a HUGE doggie no no, but a favorite snack for my son}.
The kids were able to take their homemade doggie cookies, their new {stuffed} puppies, and a few other doggie treats home in simple paper bags from American Greetings that I picked up at Walmart. I just used washi tape to attach party rounds {also from Chickabug} to the outside.
My son had a doggone fun birthday party! And we are using the rest of the cute little dog greeting cards to send out thank you notes to the party guests!
