Harry Potter Inspired Quill DIY
I mentioned in the Butterbeer recipe post that we had recently visited Universal Studios. I cannot tell you how AMAZING the Wizarding World Of Harry Potter is…I mean, I don’t even have adequate words to describe it all! One thing my kids had to have from our visit was a quill. I tried to explain to them that we could make them for a fraction of the cost, but they wouldn’t take no for an answer and spent their $7+ on a quill (each)! So, a few days after we came home, I went to Michael’s and bought a 3 pack of black feathers for $1 after my coupon and set out to show them I could make those same quills for much less…and you can too with this simple Harry Potter inspired quill DIY!
Supplies:
Feathers (3/$2 or less with a coupon at Michael’s)
Gorilla Glue
Inexpensive pens (I used an Office Depot brand one from our pen drawer that was half empty)
Heavy duty scissors or wire snips
Bamboo skewer
Take your pen apart and snip it down in half or more.
Carefully use the skewer to clear the inside of the feather. You may need to snip off the tip of the feather too. Add a large drop of Gorilla Glue Super Glue to the cut end of the pen and drop a little into the tip of the feather.
Using the wire snips to hold the pen tip, slide the pen into the hole of the feather, and voila! You have a quill. If the pen wasn’t cut short enough, you can slide it back out and trim it before the glue dries, or you can color the tip with a black sharpie. For $0.33 each, I have 3 quills that look nearly identical to the Harry Potter ones from Universal and my kids are THRILLED to have extras!
Be sure to check out the rest of Harry Potter Week too!
