Vintage Train Party
By A Party Studio
My son, Asher, is crazy about trains. We spent Christmas with his grandparents and he was absolutely fascinated with the train that they had moving around on a track around the Christmas tree. So, for his 3rd birthday party in May, it was clear that his party should be based around his new love of trains and the local train museum was the natural choice for the party venue.
I wanted a rustic, vintage look for the party, to match the location. So, I decided on a grey, yellow and blue color scheme. I incorporated burlap, lace and natural twine and displayed flowers inside mason jars.
The dessert table featured a chocolate fudge two tier cake, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with classic buttercream frosting, Hershey kisses, Hershey nuggets, cookies and cream bars of chocolate and rock candy. I displayed some of the candy in a hand-made wooden train that I found at a local craft fair. I served bagels, croissant sandwiches, and fruit skewers. At the tables inside the dining cart, I put out bowls of pretzels, popcorn and of course, more candy.
The museum has a miniature train that all the kids enjoyed riding. They all wore train engineer caps (that were also party favors for the guests) and blew their really loud whistles.
For the party favors, each child got a train engineer cap, which I found at Target. I also passed out wooden train whistles and personalized sugar cookies.
