Ball Canning Jar Dispenser DIY

Like nearly everyone else in the world, I love Ball Canning Jars.  I use them for so, so many things.  I am smitten with the soap dispensing jars.  Recently, I saw ceramic “canning jar” ketchup and mustard dispensers…and, oh, did I ever want them…until I saw their $50 EACH price tags!  You know this girl is not going to pay $50 for a ketchup dispenser!!  So, I thought about it for a bit, and decided I could make them myself.  Armed with my determination and knowledge, I made my own for just $4.  And, now, I am sharing that Ball Canning Jar dispenser DIY with you!

Supplies:

*Ball jar(s) with lid(s) and ring(s)

*Clean pump (I asked my local Bath and Body Works store for 2 clean pumps when I was purchasing soap recently, and they gave them to me free of charge)

*Rubber washer.  I purchased mine at Lowe’s.  It is a Hillman brand, 1/2”x2 1/4”x 1/8″  I ran it through the dishwasher before I used it…

*Drill and 5/8” bit (This bit allows the large part of the Bath and Body Works pump to fit through it)

*Sand paper

After you gather your supplies, and have your drill bit on your drill, screw the lid on your jar nice and tight.

Be careful not to drill too vigorously, you don’t want to crack your jar.  I have done this A LOT, and never had an issue, but I would feel horrible if it happened to you! Once your hole is drilled, clean your jar and smooth any rough edges on the lid.  Then, dry fit your pump, it should fit, but it won’t be snug.  If you are using your jar for soap, you can glue the pump on and be done.  If you want to have a food safe pump, don’t use glue on the inside.

Now you can put your clean rubber washer on.  Simply, slide it up the tube of the pump and fit over the fat part of the pump.  It will be snug.

You can glue the outside/top part of the pump to the outside of the lid if you want to.  It will have a little wiggle, but it will work great even if you choose not to glue the top (outside that won’t touch your food). I was impatient and I did not glue it…yet…maybe…

Finally, fill your jar with ketchup and make another one for your mustard and mayonnaise!  Be ready though, your guests (and family) will want you to make them some too!

Since I had the jars, and tools already, and the pumps were free, this project cost me $1.33!

This was a very easy project and took less than 30 minutes to make!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
