Simple Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar. Y’all, my kids truly want for very little and need even less. And, like many children, unfortunately, they are a tad on the selfish and spoiled side. So, we do our best to help them become the very best person they can be; we stress the importance of being nice and not necessarily right, we want them to do their best in everything they do…especially if it is hard, we challenge them to do well in school. Parenting is not for the faint of heart. And, during this season of gifting, we ask the boys to do simple acts of kindness each day.
Last year we alternated who got to open the R{andom}A{cts of}K{indness} boxes, and that boy had to do what was in the box. Some days it was as simple as bringing a flower to their teacher, and other days it was more challenging. We finished the calendar as a family, at the mall on Christmas Eve. Each year we give the boys a certain amount of money, usually $5-$10, to spend as they choose to bless a stranger at the mall. My youngest son has my whole heart and almost always buys a Chick Fil A gift card for Santa, and waits in line to give Santa a token of love. Sometimes the boys go into the Disney Store and buy an object of their desire and give it to a child shopping at the mall. Whatever they choose to do, it always brings so many smiles to everyone, both giving and receiving.
This year, I have decided to ask the boys to each come up with 4 RAKs they would like to do this season, and my husband and I will fill out the remaining 7 days. We decided we wanted them to be more involved in the process, and we will gather all the ideas on Thanksgiving and place them in the bags that I made.
