Family Game Night with Cricut. I have a confession, I hate, like Grinch style loathe entirely, board games…seriously, I cannot stand playing them. My husband and kids, however, really love them…like truly love them. So, we compromise, and the whole family plays a few board games every year for New Year’s Eve. I like to make it a big deal…fun foods, special Coca Cola, and lots of pillows and blankets for snuggles.
This year, I decided to give in to the boys and play games a little more, and I surprised them with a fun dessert table set up near the Christmas Tree. I brought in our pallet board bar, and my rustic chalk board, and I fired up my Cricut Explore Air 2, and got to work! I used the Cricut to make tons of sparkling white snowflakes, a layered JOYFUL banner, and my favorite thing ever, a mini photo memory book for the year! I covered the chalk board in the snowflakes, and I hung the JOYFUL banner on the front of the pallet bar. Then, I printed up pictures from some of our adventures throughout the year, and put a few in our memory book.
I wanted to make the treats special, but simple, so I pulled out my Nostalgia Electrics popcorn popper, and made some fresh popcorn. I asked the hubs to make some chocolate chip cookies, and paired them with store bought sugar cookies. I had a red drink dispenser for warm cocoa, and added some Caramel Creams and candy canes nearby for the kids to add flavors to their cocoa.
In front of the bar I used my Coca Cola Crates from Crates and Pallets (available at Wayfair.com) to hold tiny cans of Santa Coke, plastic ornaments, extra photos, and our memory book. The larger crate was perfect for holding a few board games and blankets. I added pillows in front of the crates to make it easy to grab one and snuggle up.
I will admit, I really enjoyed playing games that night and looking through all the photos with the family. We even filled in the few blank pages of the book with our favorite memories. I cannot wait to go back and look through our book again next year!
