Spooky Halloween Party

Spooky Halloween Party. My sister just celebrated her birthday this week, and she loves all things Halloween. As a result, all of her birthday parties have been Halloween themed. I literally cannot remember a party that didn’t have at least some Halloween elements. This year was no different!

My husband recently bought me a vintage typewriter, just because, but I really wanted to include it in a party. With that in mind, I decided to use newsprint as the party backdrop, and include old novels we have at the house on the party table. I had a rather epic fail trying to age the newspaper, so lets just pretend I wanted it to be new looking, mmm’kay? I used a felt skull from the Dollar Tree in the middle of the backdrop, and a wooden skull garland from Michaels painted black above it.

The table was draped in a black table cloth that puddled at the floor. Newsprint bunting from Target was strung across the front of the table. (I use a folding plastic table for most of my parties, and I keep black and clear thumbtacks to use for table bunting. I just poke the thumbtack into the table through the table cloth)

The table top was decorated with lots of spooky Halloween decor. I added skull favor bags from Michaels to the typewriter. Just to the side of the typewriter, I added a glass jar full of Caramel Creams with a vinyl skull on it. I made the skull with my new Cricut Explore Air 2, and I swear it took more time to apply the vinyl than it did to cut it. Vintage books elevated the fun candelabra from Oriental Trading Company. In the center of the table I used more vintage books to hold spooky buckets of Chocolate Caramel Creams candies. (The buckets are from Oriental Trading Company) A rectangular serving tray was placed in front of the buckets, with mercury glass skulls on either side. A single black paper mache skull sat at the head of the serving tray. Mini homemade donuts (my Nostalgia Electrics Donut Maker is a family favorite appliance) with spider rings were piled high on the tray. A party is incomplete without cake, I purchased a store bought cake and added a fun spider web detail to the top with more spider rings stuck to the cake. The cake plate got a spooky make over with a little black lace hot glued to the edge. Behind the cake I placed a mercury glass cake plate with a domed lid. Stacks of books and a glittered paper mache skull were under the dome, while sticky spiders were crawling on the outside of the lid. In front of the cake plate were cupcakes with spider rings stuck in the frosting. I asked for grey frosting at the store, but I got more of a light blue. Skull plates and napkins from Michaels were on the table for all the yummy treats too.
