Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat! A fun twist on trick or treating, growing in popularity, that allows groups of people to have a trick or treating activity, even if they don’t live in the same neighborhood. Schools, churches, social clubs, etc. The participants gather in a parking lot and decorate the trunk of their car, and the children trick-or-treat from vehicle to vehicle.
Our school hosts Trunk or Treat, and it’s grown in leaps and bounds over the last few years. There are costume contests, games, treats, a few tricks, hot dog dinners available for sale, and the coveted Best Trunk Contest! The winner of the Best Trunk gets preferred parking at the school for the remainder of the school year. Instead of sending home endless catalogues full of wrapping paper and cookie dough, one of our fundraisers is Trunk or Treat. Each car that participates in the Best Trunk contest has to pay a small entry fee. The parents love being able to FUNdraise like this, and the cost for the school is minimal. Most of the items needed for the activities are donated by local businesses or school families, and the food is sold just above cost. We will even project a movie outside as the Trunk or Treaters start to wind down so the parents can pack up their trunks and then relax with friends and family at the end of the evening!
My boys are super excited about Trunk or Treat again this year, and they are chomping at the bit to decorate the van! We practiced setting it up this weekend and we think it looks great! We will, I’m sure, make some small changes, but the idea will remain the same, and the boys love it! Their favorite parts are the Witches Broom and the crow on the candy bowl!
