I’ve talked a little bit about my son’s apartment in South Florida, and how I have really tried to make it feel like an extension of our home for him while he is away. So, when I decorated for the holidays recently, I made him a cozy blanket to snuggle up with. And, this Simple DIY Holiday Blanket is truly so easy, nearly anyone could make one!
If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional.
DIY Sublimation Projects
Sublimation shirt printing is a specific process of printing that first involves printing onto a special sheet of paper, then transferring that image onto another a polyester mix product with a heat press.
Sublimating costs more than other methods, but it will last longer, without cracking or peeling over time.
I bought an Epson EcoTank Printer and filled it with Hiipoo Sublimation Ink. You need to do this with a new printer that hasn’t ever been filled with traditional ink. (Pineapple Paper Co. has a great post on converting your printer!) You will also need special sublimation paper, shirts, blankets or cups for sublimating, and a heat or mug press.
Simple DIY Holiday Blanket
I was so excited to make this cute little blanket for our son’s apartment. You will probably need to gather a few supplies to make your own, but it is the perfect gift for someone who loves the holidays! Check out my Amazon Shop or click the links below to gather your supplies!
- Favorite Things Holiday Sublimation Image – use the code FAVORITETHINGS to download it FREE
- Epson EcoTank covered to sublimate
- Sublimation Ink
- Sublimation Paper
- Heat Press
- Heat Press Tape
- Blanket with a high polyester count
- Blank copy paper
Begin by printing the image with your converted printer. Don’t forget to mirror the image.
Then, use a lint roller to clean the surface of your blanket.
Now, place the blanket on a sheet of paper. Then, tear the sublimation paper around the image. This will help keep the paper lines from pressing into the blanket. Now, use the heat tape to secure the image onto the blanket. Place another sheet of paper over the image and press the image onto the blanket. Carefully remove the sublimation paper and heat tape from the blanket.
Finally, pop some popcorn and snuggle up to watch a few of your favorite holiday movies with your new favorite blanket!
