Welcome to Neverland

This event was truly a family friendly birthday party for girls and boys, and moms and dads! We had pixies and pirates, Indian braves and mermaids!
The entryway to the party was the ever so magical nursery room window-where Peter’s shadow welcomed guests to fly to Neverland. The guests were invited to dress up as their favorite Peter Pan character and were welcomed with fairy wings, pirate hooks, eye patches, and Tinker Bell purses.

The children munched on Lost Boy Lunches with hot dogs, Pirate’s Booty, and vegetable sticks. We kept the pirate theme going with sword skewered Caprese and chicken legs. For dessert we had fruit pirate ships, waffle cone teepees, and gorgeous Peter Pan inspired cupcakes. There were even packages of candy fruit slices to fight off scurvy! The cupcakes were adorned with tiny Tinker Bell shoes, Captain Hook’s hook, Peter’s hat, and beautiful purple flowers. The children drank mermaid lagoon water while the adults sipped on blue raspberry mason jar cocktails.

The activities included picking up pretzels with pirate hooks, making sandy candy pixie wands, a pirate hook ring toss, and going on a treasure hunt led by Peter Pan himself! The backyard was transformed into Neverland with a Skull Rock swing set, pirate ship, Mermaid Lagoon, and tee pee.

*DIY:*
The Toddler Pirate Costume made from an old ring bearer tux. We added a simple pirate hat and a mustache temporary tattoo! He didn’t even know he had one on!
Mom’s Smee costume was homemade as well. I just popped out lenses from a pair of old sunglasses and cut off a pair of old red pants.
All paper goods, signs, and graphics were custom Mad Momma designs.
The Teepee was made from PVC, drop cloth, and feathers.
The book banner was made from a vintage Peter Pan book I found at an antique store.

The fruit pirate ships were made by cutting an orange into fours, with a skewer to hold the grape and blueberry in place. I used a piece of skull(halloween) washi tape to make it look like a pirate flag.
The Peter Pan was hand painted by me on an old cardboard box.

*Budget:*
When I do events, I really try to keep a tight budget. I hate the idea of buying a lot of pre-made one time use decorations. I really am conscious of the amount of waste some parties can create! The nursery decor were all items I had in my home already. The Native American statue was something I made in art class when I was in fourth grade! The tiny vintage Peter doll belonged to my nephew. The dresser and table linen are from my own home decor collection. I really try to incorporate vintage or everyday items into my events because they make everything more magical. They take the brain back to childhood, which is what Neverland is about!
