Simple Mermaid Tail Cupcake Toppers with Cricut. My boys are super excited to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and we are planning a fun Pirate themed party to prepare for the new movies. But, my little niece, bless her heart, believes that pirates should only be paired with mermaids….never on their own. So, I quickly made some beautiful mermaid tail cupcake toppers and cupcakes for our party this weekend.
Supplies:
Xyron Creative Station
Toothpicks
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
CupcakesThis project was so fun! And I love the way the cupcakes turned out! I cannot wait for my sweet niece to see what I made.
Purchase or make your cupcakes. I was able to make mine with some help from My Sweet Things. If you are in the Atlanta area, be sure to look Kathi up! While your cupcakes are cooling, open up Cricut Design Space and begin making the cupcake toppers. I used this cut file. I chose a pretty fish scale style paper for the top layer of the mermaid tail. Then, I ran it through my Xyron Creative Station to create a sticker.
The second layer is Cricut’s new holographic vinyl. I LOVE this vinyl! I carefully placed the top layer over the vinyl.
The third layer is solid Cricut cardstock, and it is just a little larger than the first two layers. I carefully added the other two layers on top of the cardstock and I was ready to hot glue.I hot glued toothpicks to the backs of the mermaid tails, and that was it! I was done with the cupcake toppers before the cupcakes even cooled!
I hope these cupcakes last until this weekend, but the way my boys are eyeing them, I doubt they will last past the morning.
