Ghostbusters Party.  I LOVE 80’s movies!  I grew up watching Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and all things John Hughes.  And, as any good parent should, I have made my children watch exposed my boys to the goodness that is 80’s movies.  My boys have a new found love of the original Ghostbusters movies because of the release of the new movie.  As a result, we hosted an epic Ghostbusters viewing party this week to prepare for the new movie.  

I set up a dessert table on my work table in the great room.  The back drop was a faux brick wall, with a ghost containment unit stuck to the middle.  The ghost containment unit was made with two shirt boxes, red spray paint, printable stickers, and a sheet of red poster board.  On the table, I had lots of fun Ghostbuster themed treats.  A library style card catalog was perfect for Ghostbusters Twinkies and a Ray Stantz figure from ThinkGeek.  A Tupperware style container full of slime was the perfect place to put the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Mugs (also from ThinkGeek) full of giant marshmallows.  Ghost traps were filled with amazing cookies from Creating Awesomenessity.  They were as delicious as they were awesome!  Instead of putting a traditional cake topper on the slime dripped cake, I hung a stuffed Slimer above the cake, in front of the ghost containment unit.  The kids (and I) loved drinking Hi-C Ecto Coolers too!  The boys’ (or my) Proton Pack and a jar of “Slime Balls” aka green Sixlets were the perfect finishing touches to the table! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Since we couldn’t eat just cake, cookies, marshmallows and Twinkies, I set up our Nostalgia Electrics Hot Dog Cart in front of a wall of graffiti my son painted.  I added another stuffed Slimer toy to the cooler and stuck toy hot dogs in his mouth, like he was in the original movie.  The kids thought that was awesome! We enjoyed our NY street dogs while we watched the movies.
