DIY Spring Decor
I am going to host a Welcome Spring Party during Spring Break for my kids. But, I am gathering and DIY’ing a lot the party decor now. The inspiration for our party is a printable set I designed last Spring. (Look for those printables soon) The main design on the printable set is a cute little bird my son drew for me. So, when I saw the Eileen Hull Bird Die at Sizzix, I instantly knew I wanted to make some birds for our party. However, I wanted them to be 3-D birds, not flat, I also can’t sew…Finally, I like to be able to use and create party decor that I can use that isn’t just for the party. These little no sew birds are perfect DIY Spring Decor too.
I made a whole flock of little birds in less than an hour, so they are truly simple.
Supplies:
Felt
Hot Glue and Glue Gun
Pipe Cleaners
Paint Pen or Permanent Marker
Begin by cutting your felt pieces.
You will need 2 bird bodies and 2 wings for each bird. One sheet of felt is more than enough to make each bird, including adding the stuffing and creating a third panel for the bottom. I did not use the tiny beak, or the egg for this project. (I may have stuffed them into the bird)
I made a template for the bottom panel after I glued the two bird bodies together at the top. I added a thin line of hot glue along the edge of the top of one bird body, and stuck both bodies together. Then I spread the bird bodies open on the bottom (that sounds so gross) and traced it onto a sheet of scrap paper. Then, I cut one out for each bird I was making.
Then, I poked two holes into the bottom piece of felt, and threaded pipe cleaner into the holes, and glued a tiny scrap of felt on to keep the pipe cleaner secure.
Finally, I glued the bottom to the top two pieces the same way I did the bodies, leaving a hole in the bottom to stuff it with felt scraps.
I trimmed, the extra glue strands and clumps off, and they are absolutely adorable!
