DIY Cinco De Mayo Picado Banner
DIY Cinco De Mayo Picado Banner. I have a confession…I love Cinco de Mayo. Who wouldn’t? A bright, colorful party with tacos and booze? I mean, that’s the perfect party, amiright?
One of my favorite decorations for any Cinco de Mayo party is a papel picado banner. They are usually fairly inexpensive, and add a lot of pop with little effort or cost. However, this year, I could not find a picado banner in any of my local stores. And the one I have used for years is just about done. So, I did what any DIY’er would do, and I checked Cricut Design Space for a picado banner template cut file. I was pretty surprised to see there was only one, and I just didn’t love it. I reached out to Pineapple Paper Co. and asked her to create an picado banner SVG for me, and she sent me the most awesome picado banner ever! This SVG file would even be a perfect papel picado wedding banner, it has cute little hearts!
How to make a Cinco de Mayo Papel Picado Banner:
Cricut {I used the Maker because I wanted to cut my picado banner out of felt and I like the cuts better with the Maker}
I sized my banners to fit 3 on each 12×12 piece of Cricut felt, and I cut 4 colors. It took a really {really} long time to cut them all because they are so very intricate. But, in the end, it was totally worth it because I have a picado banner I love and can reuse over and over.
Once each banner was cut and weeded, I used hot glue to attach colored jute to the top of each banner and it was ready to decorate our wall for our Cinco de Mayo fiesta! It took just about 25 minutes of active work {including weeding} to make this banner, and I am totally in love with it!
