St. Nikolas Day Celebration
By Pam Smerker Desings/ Squatles
I am thrilled to be sharing one of my family’s Holiday traditions with you all this whole week! Together with several of my favorite party girls and bloggers, EPM will share different ways to celebrate St. Nikolas’ Birthday or Santa’s Birthday. Pam Smerker is first this week, sharing her adorable Squatles with a little history about St. Nikolas, or St. Nicholas, St. Nick, Santa.
Saint Nikolas Day, has been celebrated in many countries and in many different ways for over a century. Saint Nikolas a real Saint, is known as the gift giver, similar to Santa Claus, helping those in need and for his love of children.
On the eve of Saint Nikolas’ birthday, December 5th boots or shoes are put near a home’s front door by children. In some cases children put their letters to Santa inside of there boots for Saint Nikolas to take. When the household is asleep either Saint Nikolas or Elves visit and fill the boots or shoes with various goodies as a reminder that it is better to give then receive. Some treats include nuts and fruit other’s include sweets and small gifts. In some cases Saint Nikolas or Elves have been known to fill the family’s advent calendar with candy.
Do you celebrate St. Nikolas Day or his Birthday on December 6th? If so what fun things happen at your home?
