I want to start this post by sharing that I am not of hispanic heritage. In fact, I am nearly all Scottish. However, I do feel like it is very important to learn and celebrate everyone’s heritage and the holidays associated with them. I have taught my students, and then my children about so many holidays and religions. I believe it is part of raising well rounded, empathetic, and kind hearted humans. With that, I am so excited to share this sweet Dia de los Muertos decoration idea!
If you decide to make a purchase through my links, I will be paid a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional.
Day of the Dead
This sweet holiday is typically celebrated by those with Mexican heritage. It can be celebrated on November 1st or even as long as October 31 through November 6th.
The movie Coco was very helpful for my boys to better understand the meanings behind Dia de los Muertos.
Dia de los Muertos Decoration
It is important to create an altar or ofrendas for your Dia de los Muertos celebrations. The altar should include photos of loved ones that have passed. But, it should also have candles, food treats, and colorful flowers. And, many ofrendas have sugar skull decorations.
I found this simple white skull bowl? candy container? dish…at my local craft store (this one is similar) and I thought it would be a wonderful Dia de los Muertos decoration.
I gathered some colorful paints and started painting the simple white skull and created a beautiful, colorful sugar skull. Then, I carefully drilled a drainage hole in the bottom of the skull and filled it with colorful flowers.
I love how it turned out, and I feel like it would be a beautiful addition to your Dia de los Muertos celebrations this year!
If you enjoyed this post, you will love these too!
