Mermaid Party. Mermaids and unicorns are so crazy popular right now and my little niece is totally in love with them! I mean, who wouldn’t be, right? So, with a little help from Oriental Trading Company, I turned my backyard party space into a mermaid grotto just for my sweet niece. The first thing I did was paint a gorgeous mermaid backdrop on a pallet. (I will share the DIY for that on the Cricut blog on August 1st. ) And, then I gathered mermaid-y (yes, that’s a word) decor from the house to decorate the rest of the space. I used our rustic crates to frame the party table, and filled them with shells, beautiful lanterns, sailors knots, and faux coral.
Since it was a party for one, I didn’t go crazy with food and drinks. I filled a jar with Goldfish Crackers, a metal sand bucket with cookie sand and candy shells, and I pulled out our jar of salt water taffy. I also had a cake for her, because she truly believes if there is cake there is a party, and I wanted her day to be special. I used my Cricut to quickly cut a mermaid tail to match the backdrop for the top of the cake too. Since I had her for lunch, I made sure we had a mermaid lunch ready for her; a sandwich, “sea weed” salad, and some Goldfish Crackers, with bubbling sea water to wash it all down!
My niece happily played with the giant shell filled with sensory sand and small shells, looking at all the gadgets and gizmos aplenty, some of the thingamabobs, and just being a mermaid for a few hours!
I sent her home with little bags full of mermaid goodies for her and some friends, and she talked nonstop about being a mermaid at Aunt Bunny’s house. This was the perfect party for one or many little {or big} mermaids.
Many thanks to Oriental Trading Company for making my sweet nieces mermaid party dreams come true; and to Cricut and DecoArt for keeping my supply closet(s) full enough to make the amazing backdrop on the fly!
